Position Overview

The Department of English of The Ohio State University in Columbus is searching for Senior Lecturers to teach writing courses in Writing and Information Literacy in English (English 1110), Business & Professional Writing (English 3304), and Technical Writing (English 3305), and advanced writing embedded literacy courses (English 2367.01, 2367.02, 2367.04, 2367.05, 2367.06, 2367.07s, 2367.08, and English 3000. At Ohio State, English 1110 fulfills the Writing and Information Literacy (WIL) foundations requirement of the GE (formerly known as First-Year Writing).English 3304 and 3305 are two of the most popular courses that (among other writing courses) meet the new General Education Programs advanced writing embedded literacy requirement for several units across Ohio States campus, including students in Fisher College of Business, Actuarial Science, Speech and Hearing Science, and Natural Resource Management, for example. These two courses also serve students in the departments Minor in Professional Writing. Advanced writing embedded literacy courses include all the courses in the new general education Writing in the Themes category (2367.05 Writing and the U. S. Folk Experience; 2367.06 Composing Disability in the U.S.; 2367.07s Literacy Narratives of Black Columbus, a service-learning course; 2367.08 Writing about Video Games and Virtual Worlds; and English 3000 Writing and Social Change: Performing Citizenship. Additional advanced writing embedded literacy courses that are not part of Writing in the Themes include English 2367.01 Language, Identity, and Culture in the U.S. Experience; English 2367.02 Writing about Literature in the U.S. Experience; and 2367.04 Writing about Science and Technology.

This is a full-time (100%), nine-month appointment (autumn and spring semesters) with the potential for renewal, and the position includes access to health and retirement benefits. Additional benefit information can be found at . The assigned teaching load will be 4 sections per semester.

Performance Objectives

Successful candidates may teach English 1110, 3304, and/or 3305, versions of English 2367, or Writing in the Themes courses during the 202526 Academic Year. Candidates may teach other courses depending on departmental needs and the candidates background. Candidates will be chosen for this position based on their record of successful teaching.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required : Ph.D. or terminal degree in English and experience teaching in higher education.
